Mayor Draws on Railway Security Experience in HK

Mayor Hau Lung-bin paid an inspection visit to the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) in Hong Kong on June 12, attending a security briefing at the control center of Tsing Yi Station. The purpose of trip is to exchange opinions with the Pearl of the Orient on the issue of rail safety management and anti-terrorism measures.

Put to service for 35 years, the MTR carries over 43 million passengers every day. It is the most important transport system in Hong Kong, boasting safe, reliable, and efficient services. As an international metropolis with a huge flow of visitors, Hong Kong has endeavored to ensure the safety of the underground system through the cooperation of police, station staff, and security guards. Campaigns have also been mounted to increase riders’ awareness on crime prevention and emergency response. During the trip, Hau also stopped by Hong Kong Station to observe how the MTR system is integrated with the Airport Express Services, including in-town check-in and shuttle services. The experience will serve as a reference for Taipei when Taoyuan International Airport MRT Line is completed to allow for facilitated transit between the national airpot and the capital.
