Individual Donates Five Paratransit Vehicles to City Hall

On behalf of Taipei City Government, Mayor Hau Lung-bin received a donation of five paratransit vehicles from a private citizen during a ceremony on June 23.

The mayor received the vehicles from retired elementary school teacher Lo Tse-yang, who attended on behalf of the donor Hsiao Ming-tao. Hau remarked that paratransits are vehicles that the city government needs, but unable to acquire due to insufficient funding. This charitable act will benefit over 120,000 physically-challenged residents of Taipei.Hau pointed out that Hsiao’s generosity also sets a new record for the largest number of paratransit vehicles received through a single donation from individual citizens. On behalf of the city government and physically-challenged residents, he expressed his gratitude to the donor.Currently, Taipei City requires an average of 55,000 paratransit services each month. This can only be met with a fleet of 300 vehicles or more. With 287 vehicles now in service, the mayor believes that the contributions by philanthropists and companies seeking to fulfill their social responsibilities will be able to help physically-impaired citizens.During his address, Lo took the opportunity to announce the forming of a charitable foundation with several sixth grade classmates of Hsiao at Fuxing Elementary School to give back to society and assist those who need help.
