Taiwanese Classes Now Available for New Immigrants

To help new immigrants adapt to life in Taiwan, communicate more easily with locals, and learn more about the culture, Zhongzheng District Office is holding classes on Taiwanese Hokkien between July 1 and 30 at New Immigrants’ Hall.

According to Zhongzheng District Office, the majority of new immigrants who just arrive on the island will encounter embarrassing moments due to the language gap. In light of this, the district office has launched the program to help them blend in with the local environment.

Through activities such as singing and acting, students will learn Taiwanese terms for greetings, vegetables and fruits available in traditional markets, as well as other common expressions used in daily life.

Foreign spouses who are domiciled in Taipei and who have completed marriage registration are eligible to apply. There will be 16 courses (48 hours) and the maximum number of students in each class is 30. The classes will be free of charge. Babysitters are available to look after young children for students during class.
