City Holds Events to Address Oversupply of Garlic

With the island experiencing an oversupply of garlic, the city government is responding to the central government’s call by working with Yunlin County Government to help stabilize the prices of the agricultural produce.

As part of the campaign, the Market Administration Office (MAO) has teamed up with Yunlin County Agricultural Association to hold garlic sales at the Farmer’s Market in Taipei Expo Park. A thousand bags of garlic–each weighing 600g and priced at NT$38–will be available at the market over the weekend of July 5 – 6. Jianguo Holiday Flower Market will also feature stalls selling garlic among other agricultural products.According to MAO, the city has purchased 10 tons of garlic from the municipality in middle Taiwan. City hall staff also organized group-buying activities to help balance the supply and demand of garlic, thereby ensuring farmers’ rights are not compromised.Regarding media reports that garlic prices vary in different areas, MAO encourages the public to visit the website which offers constantly updated information on where to purchase agricultural produce at reasonable prices: http://www.tcma.gov.tw (Chinese)
