Mayor Thanks Rescue Association for Making Taipei a Safer City

On July 13, Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the 22nd anniversary celebration of Taipei Rescue Association (TRA).

The mayor expressed his gratitude to the members of TRA on behalf of the Fire Department and citizens for the association’s role in assisting the city government during disaster prevention and recovery operations. During his speech, the mayor noted that the city government is limited in what it can accomplish; however, by incorporating the power, mobility, and resources of the private sector, operations can be carried out with greater efficiency. He added that he has known about the association since his stint as the Secretary-general of the Red Cross Society of the ROC. According to the mayor, TRA has developed a close partnership with the Fire Department in disaster relief operations under the leadership of its past and current presidents. It is the city government’s most reliable and indispensable ally.He cited the disaster relief operations in Linbian Township in southern Taiwan following the landing of Typhoon Morakot in 2009 and support for search efforts along Suhua Highway in Yilan following the landing of Typhoon Fanapi in 2010 as examples of the association’s contributions.
