Heart Bus to Embark on First-Aid Educational Tour

On behalf of the city government, Mayor Hau Lung-bin received the donation of a first-aid experience vehicle from CTBC Charity Foundation on July 24. The vehicle will serve as an important facility in educating the public on life-saving techniques such as Heimlich maneuver, AED, and CPR.

Dubbed ‘Heart Bus,’ the van was jointly designed by Academia Sinica and National Taiwan University of Arts. The vehicle will tour Taipei to promote prompt medical treatment.According to Hau, the City requires emergency responders to arrive at the scene of an incident in six minutes—the ‘golden time’ to perform life-saving skills for the injured to ensure the greatest chance of survival. Effectiveness of first-aid practice can be maximized if more people can familiarize themselves with emergency treatment know-how. Hau expressed his gratitude to CTBC Charity Foundation, which donated the Heart Bus along with 360 jackets. Through the donation, he hopes that more people can learn first-aid techniques and perform them when the need arises. The mayor pointed out that as of the end of June, a total of 1,114 AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) have been installed across Taipei. In other words, the City’s goal of setting up 1,000 such medical units has been achieved roughly 1.5 years ahead of schedule. With the mobile van, people will get to learn about how to utilize the equipment and help make Taipei a safer city.
