City to Dispatch Emergency Personnel to Assist Relief Operations in Kaohsiung
On August 1, Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced that the city government will deploy personnel to Kaohsiung’s Emergency Operation Center to assist in relief efforts.
Following a phone conversation with Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu at 8 AM, Hau announced that the city government will dispatch manpower from the agencies of the Fire Department and Health Department immediately.Personnel, emergency funds, and equipment from Taipei’s Fire Department, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Civil Affairs, and Department of Health are also on stand-by to support Kaohsiung City Government.A series of gas explosions shocked the southern port city in the night of July 31.The mayor also instructed the Department of Economic Development, Public Works Department, and Fire Department to conduct a thorough inspection of Taipei City’s gas pipe network to ensure safety and structural integrity.
