Mayor Reports on Progress of Taipei Dome Construction

On August 11, Mayor Hau Lung-bin delivered a presentation at Taipei City Council on the progress of a series of city construction projects, including the Taipei Dome Complex, Cloud Industry Park, and Audio Visual Industry Park.

The mayor stressed that the city government will demand the completion of Taipei Dome according to schedule. On principle, the dome will be the venue for the opening ceremony and baseball games of the 2017 Summer Universiade.According to the mayor, the first phase for raising the roof’s structural steel frame of the dome building has been completed on May 7. The next phase of assembling for the roof structure is slated for the end of November. The mayor noted that while the original deadline for the dome’s completion was June 30, the city government has agreed to push back the date for acquiring utility license for the building to August 14. He remarked that the city government will review further request for extensions from the contractor, Farglory Dome, on a legal standpoint. As for the transplanting of road trees along Zhongxiao East Road and Guangfu South Road in order to transform existing pedestrian walkways into roads for vehicles, Hau pointed out that the city government has called agency meetings to review the proposals by arborists and environmental groups calling for road designs making room for these trees.Regarding the controversy over ongoing construction weakening the structural integrity of buildings at the nearby Songshan Tobacco Factory site, Hau stressed that the Department of Cultural Affairs had already put forth its demands to Farglory Dome.
