To celebrate the 130th anniversary of Taipei’s founding, Chen Hsi-Huang Traditional Puppet Troupe will be staging performances at the 4D Theater of Taipei Confucius Temple on August 17, September 14, October 18, and October 19. The shows will start at 2:30 PM on the respective dates.

The troupe will introduce the members of the public to the art of Chinese glove puppetry, allowing visitors to learn the history of the ancient opera form and how to better appreciate the folk art.

Acknowledging the contributions by Chen Hsi-Huang Traditional Puppet Troupe, Civil Affairs Commissioner Huang Lu Ching-ju noted that Master Chen, the eighty-year-old glove puppeteer with the status of “national treasure,” continues to devote himself to the promotion and passing-down of the unique traditional art form.

Huang invited the public to seize this rare opportunity to experience the awe-inspiring live performances by the master. The maximum number of audience for each session is limited to 94. The attendees will also receive a set of Taipei Confucius Temple-themed poker.

In addition to the shows, Chen Hsi-Huang Traditional Puppet Troupe is also holding an exhibition on glove puppetry crafts at the Teachers’ Residence in Dalongdong from today until October 31. The mansion is a grade three historic site.
