Gongguan Car-free Zone Open for Street Performances

To bring some street liveliness to the new pedestrian area during designated hours, the Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that buskers can now apply for a permit to perform at the auto-free zone in Gongguan.

The trial run for “Gongguan car-free zone” measure has been implemented since August 2. DOT invites qualified street artists to book available time slots between noon and 10 PM on holidays for performances at Gongguan. Those interested should call the 1999 Citizen Hotline (or 02-27208889, ext. 1508 from other municipalities) during office hours Monday through Friday (9 AM-noon / 2 PM-5 PM).According to DOT, Gongguan pedestrian-only area has seen a number of fantastic shows and interactive sessions take place along Alley 316, Section 3 and Alley 24, Section 4 on Roosevelt Road since the policy took effect two weeks ago. Amazed pedestrians also took photographs of the performances and shared with others the joyous moments through social media. DOT invites the public to visit the pedestrian-friendly commercial hub during holidays to experience the transformed atmosphere surrounding a hustling and bustling neighborhood where people and vehicles always have to fight for the right of way.
