Luc Besson’s “Lucy” Makes Taipei Debut

The long-awaited debut of the sci-fi thriller Lucy made its debut in Taipei on August 18. Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the event and congratulated Luc Besson for his latest box office hit.

Hau recalled that during his first meeting with Besson, the French director remarked that one of the best ways to market a city is through movies. The mayor added that he believes that a film created by Besson would no doubt become a great boost to the promotion of Taipei.Noting that Lucy devoted a significant amount of time in recounting the popular landmarks, friendly people, and great cuisine of Taipei, Hau stressed that the movie does an outstanding job in marketing the city to a global audience.To express his gratitude to the international director for his role in marketing Taipei, Hau presented him with a city key at the event. The mayor pointed out that Luc Besson is the first director to receive Taipei’s city key, which also confers him the status of honorary citizen.Besson said that visiting Taipei is like coming home for him. He wished to express thanks to those who helped him and the filming crew during their previous sojourn. Following the premiere, the organizers held a banquet for Mayor Hau, Besson, and the visiting cast members at the well-known restaurant Din Tai Fung. According to the Taipei Film Commission, Mayor Hau and the appeal of Taiwanese delicacies are two reasons why the production team chose Taipei as the filming spot.
