A total of 20 budding designers received their award from Mayor Hau Lung-bin during the “2014 Fashion in Taipei” press event on August 26. He also signed a Letter of Intent with a number of industry players on future collaboration. The ceremony was conducted at the witness of Chairman of Commerce Development Research Institute Hsu Chung-jen.

According to Hau, five of last year’s award-winning designers have established their own brands; one of the winners has even won a spotlight at a catwalk show during the New York Fashion Week. These achievements stand testimony to the fruits of the city’s campaign in promoting fashion design.Hau stressed that events like Fashion in Taipei provide a platform for the talented to unlock their potential through the help of fashion businesses. Upcoming young designers are thus given an opportunity to shine on the stage by incorporating elements such as the latest fashion trends, local culture, and creativity. This year the organizers invited well-known businesses – spanning garment, retailing, and fashion media – to ink the letter of intent. The City hopes to bring about successful matchmaking between the designers and industry players, as well as soliciting more support from other enterprises. Participants include 3M, Tainan Enterprises Co., Hayashi Department Store, ITOKIN Taiwan, Apple, Bazaar, and Elle. The mayor holds high expectations for the 20 outstanding designers and hopes they will work to make Taipei a trend-setter in Asia, thereby enhancing Taipei’s reputation as a design capital.
