CCK Chihai Cultural Park Construction Gets Underway

Mayor Hau Lung-bin presided over the ground-breaking ceremony for the Chiang Ching-kuo Chihai Cultural Park on August 28.

The city government conferred the status of historical site upon the residence in 2006. Its plans were to combine the building with surrounding facilities to form the CCK Chihai Cultural Park. Hau remarked that the refurbishment of the historical edifice has been carried out, while the planned memorial library is slated for completion in 2019.According to the mayor, the Chihai Residence is the most well-preserved home of the late president Chiang Ching-kuo. From 1969 through 1988, Chiang spent the last 19 years of his life living there. He is still well-regarded by many people on the island even today. Many key decisions affecting the course of the nation’s history were made inside this modest mansion, including the withdrawal of ROC from the United Nation and the termination of official diplomatic relationship with the US.Among the dignitaries attending the ceremony were President Ma Ying-jeou, Vice President Wu Den-yih, former premier Fredrick Chen, former premier Hau Pei-tsun, former KMT chairman Wu Po-hsiung, and surviving family members of the late president.
