Radio Program Series Commemorating Taipei’s 130th Birthday Now Available at TBS Website

To celebrate the 130th anniversary of Taipei’s founding, Taipei Broadcasting Station (TBS) will be airing a special series touching upon the history of this city. The show invites experts from fields spanning history, architecture, music, and theater to share their knowledge with listeners.

TBS Director Tina Chen noted that the radio station kicked off the project at the beginning of 2014. Each episode spotlights an expert talking about Taipei’s evolution from the perspective of his or her specialization.As of August, TBS has recorded over 30 individual episodes for the series.Recent episodes include the development of Chinese pop music, Peking Opera, and Taiwanese Opera by Professor Wang An-chi of National Taiwan University’s Department of Drama and Theatre and other guests; a discussion by Taipei City Archives Committee Deputy Commissioner Juang Young-ming on how the city’s road network expanded over time; and a talk between Lee Chien-lang and Chang Chen-kuen about historical landmarks such as Baoan Temple, Taipei Railway Station, and Red House.The radio show is available online. The episodes are also broadcasted on TBS (FM 93.1 and AM 1134).
