TPEDOIT Promotes YouBike at Trade Show in Malaysia

The Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) attended the 2014 MATTA Fair in Malaysia from September 5 through 7. At the expo, the agency showcased the city’s rental bike system – YouBike – and a special tour package designed for Muslim visitors.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of Taipei’s rental bicycles, the agency brought an actual YouBike to the fairgrounds, allowing visitors to obtain hands-on experience of riding the orange-colored bicycle. According to TPEDOIT, Taipei’s convenient YouBike allows coverage of the ‘last mile’ for local commuters. Already boasting a fleet of 5,416 bicycles and 165 rental stations, the YouBike is only a part of the City’s vast public transportation network which includes the public bus system (283 routes served by a fleet of 3,502 buses) and 11 (soon to be 12) MRT lines.Another highlight of Taipei’s showcase includes a 4-day/3-night tour package designed for Muslim tourists. The suggested route includes a visit to Taipei’s traditional markets, a trip to the fabric stores inside Yongle Market, and a stop at the Taipei Grande Mosque. The department also took the opportunity to introduce some of Taipei’s Halal-certified restaurants and souvenirs. Among the 51 restaurants and hotels certified by Chinese Muslim Association in Taiwan, 21 are located in Taipei City.
