EasyCard Corporation Boosts Contributions to Charities through Innovation

On September 10, Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the press event inaugurating the EasyCard Corporation’s new charity drive for disadvantaged students.

Under the company’s innovative plan, a set percentage from EasyCard add-value proceeds will help fund students from disadvantaged families. The mayor expects to raise over NT$5 million for these students in need through the program.During his address, Hau praised the present and past chairmen of the company for the evolution of EasyCard. From its humble beginning as a rechargeable card designed for paying subway fares, EasyCard has been transformed into an electronic wallet with multiple functions.He recalled that the EasyCard was first issued under former chairman Ou Chin-der, who also established a solid foundation to ensure room for growth. Under former chairman Sean Lien and former company general manager Jason Lin, the card became an electronic wallet after receiving the green light from the Legislative Yuan. Chairman Chang Chia-sheng successfully boosted the international profile of EasyCard by reaching agreements with smartcard companies in Hong Kong and Singapore.The mayor also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the 15 banks which issue EasyCard-integrated credit cards. He reported that there are currently 40 million EasyCards and 10 million Easycard-integrated credit cards in circulation, showing the popularity of the smart card.
