New HAC Initiative to Promote Innovative Products with Hakka Elements

In an effort to preserve the unique Hakka heritage and breathe new life into the culture, the Hakka Affairs Commission (HAC) unveiled a new program encouraging young designers to implement their creativity in the promotion and reinvention of Hakka-style products.

According to HAC Chairperson Liu Chia-chun, the ‘Hakka Industry Innovation and Matchmaking’ initiative is divided into two parts. The first step will be to invite industry players interested in creating innovative Hakka merchandise to take part in the program. The second part is to conduct matchmaking between aspiring designers/illustrators and participating businesses. Hopefully, the program will give birth to a whole new array of awe-inspiring products brimming with Hakka elements.

In addition to providing prospective artists with a stage to showcase their talents, the initiative also opens up more commercial opportunities, creating a win-win scenario for everyone.

Chairperson Liu hopes that the program will help foster Hakka industry and allow more people to learn about the essence of Hakka art. The newly-developed products will be on sale at Taipei Hakka Cultural Park.

The deadline for submissions to the ‘Hakka Industry Innovation and Matchmaking’ initiative is September 25. A total of three original items will be produced this year. Furthermore, the finished products will be exhibited during an event at Hakka Cultural Park from October 25 to 26.
