Mayor Attends Opening Night Gala of the 2014 Taipei Biennial

Vice President Wu Den-yih and Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the opening night gala of the 2014 Taipei Biennial on September 12.

During his address to the audience, the mayor noted that this year marks the ninth anniversary of the Taipei Biennial. The curator for each of the Taipei Biennial has incorporated global issues with local society and culture to determine a theme for the exhibition.

With participation of both local and foreign artists, the event has become an important occasion for cultural exchange between Taipei and the international community while serving as a platform to connect with contemporary art trends around the world.

As Taipei’s window to the world, the show also offers local artists a chance to interact with the international art scene. Hopefully, such interaction will encourage innovations and contribute to the development of culture and creative industry in Taiwan.

The mayor took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the exhibition’s curator Nicolas Bourriaud who is visiting Taipei to work on the planning of the Biennial. He noted that visitors will be able to witness the pieces created by artists from Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe.

Accompanied by Bourriaud, Hau took a tour at the showcase where he expressed support and encouragement for the participating artists.
