Application Deadline Reminder: Subsidies for Students with Unemployed Parents

The Department of Labor (DOL) is urging unemployed parents to apply for education subsidies for their children before the deadline on September 30.

According to DOL Commissioner Chen Yeh-shin, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Individuals domiciled in Taipei (excluding foreign spouses of residents domiciled in Taipei who are authorized to work in Taiwan, as well as residents from mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau);
  2. Individuals involuntarily unemployed for less than six months;
  3. Individuals and his/her spouse whose combined income in 2013 does not exceed NT$1.48 million, and whose children are attending high schools, vocational schools, colleges, or universities on the island and have not received other subsidies or tuition waivers provided by government institutions.

The amount of the education subsidies varies as follows: public high schools and vocational schools (NT$5,000), private high schools and vocational schools (NT$12,000), public colleges and universities (NT$12,000), and private colleges and universities (NT$26,000).
