Mayor Visits New York for Climate Leadership Awards

Mayor Hau Lung-bin embarked on a trip to New York on September 21. He is visiting the American city to attend the 2014 C40 & Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards presentation ceremony slated for September 23 (Taipei Time).

Taipei is the only Asian city shortlisted in the category of Air Quality with the project of “Clean Air: It’s Your Move.” Beating 144 cities, it will be pitted against London and Mexico City in the final face-off. In addition, the winner of the Citizen’s Choice Award will be announced at the event following an online vote by the public members on their favorite project out of the 31 finalist cities. The ceremony will see the participation of a number of world leaders, including Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon and former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg. During his sojourn in New York, Hau will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Taipei with Columbia University. He will also meet with Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio, Speaker of the New York City Council Melissa Mark-Viverito, the first Taiwanese American member of the U.S. House of Representatives Grace Meng, as well as CEO of the Siemens Infrastructure & Cities Sector Roland Busch. He will be returning home on September 24.C40 is an international city-based organization devoted to the reduction of regional and global greenhouse gas emissions.
