Riverbank Carnival Brings Tamsui River Season to a Close

Following the success of a series of riverside events, the Public Works Department (PWD) will be holding the ‘final chapter’ of the Tamsui River Season – a one-day carnival for the entire family. The “Tamsui River Season Closing Ceremony and Smile Wall Inauguration Ceremony” will take place on September 27, 2014!

According to PWD, it seeks to encourage more residents to come closer to the waters and nurture the value of treating water resources as a treasured thing through the holding of several waterfront activities this year. The “Summer Assignment” event of Tamsui River Season, which took place in the recent past, was one of such activities.Taking place at the riverbank along Dajia Riverside Park, the carnival on Saturday will offer fun activities for parents and kids. The Hydraulic Engineering Office (HEO) noted that a push bike competition targets families with children between the ages of 2 to 5. For kids older than 5 years old, parents can take them on a cycling trip along the riverside. Those signing up for the activities will receive a box of popcorn. Individuals completing set challenges will be eligible to take part in a raffle, as well as receiving a small gift. HEO also indicated that renovations of the well-known “Smile Wall” has been completed and will be unveiled on the day of the carnival. The overhauled wall includes the addition of six new ‘smiling faces’ to the existing pattern. All the tiles used in the repair works were donated by Champion Building Materials. The commissioner of PWD remarked that the riverside park is a multi-function facility and a great place for rest and leisure activities. All riverside parks are open to the public around the clock and free of charge.
