British Transport Minister Visits City Hall

Mayor Ko Wen-je met with a delegation led by British Minister of State for Transport Baroness Susan Kramer at city hall on January 26.

The members of the delegation included representatives from 12 British enterprises spanning railroad and public transport industries.During the meeting, Kramer and Ko exchanged views on a wide range of transportation-related topics. The mayor expressed particular interest in the success of the British experience in implementing an intelligent transportation management system in resolving local traffic and urban renewal issues. The two also reaffirmed the strengthening of relationship between Taipei City and the UK.At the end of the meeting, Kramer presented a pocket watch from the House of Lords to the mayor. In return, Ko presented the visiting minister with a commemorative porcelain cup set resembling Taipei 101.When asked by the media about local views on receiving clocks as gifts, City Spokesperson Lin Ho-ming remarked that having worked as a surgeon, the mayor is not overly concerned about traditional customs. Cultural exchange is also an important aspect of this meeting, noted Lin.
