As recently announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Article 16 of the Tobacco Hazards Preventions Act will become effective on April 1, 2015. By then, smoking will be prohibited at all national parks, natural parks, scenic areas and forest recreation areas, except in smoking zones. Smoking will become entirely unacceptable in places without smoking zones.
To go with the new rule, a few smoking zones will be established at the Chukou Visitor and Administration Center and the Niupuzi Leisure Area at the Alishan National Scenic Area. All such zones will be equipped with ashtrays and smoking signs. Visitors are advised to follow all related regulations, too.
