Parents of Taiwanese student arrested in U.S. issue apology

Taipei, Taiwanese actor Sun Peng (??), whose son was arrested in the United States for threatening to shoot up his high school in Pennsylvania, issued a public apology on behalf of him and his wife on Friday for the commotion the incident has caused.

Sun and his wife, Taiwanese opera singer Di Ying (??), departed for the U.S. Friday afternoon to support their son An Tso Sun (???) as he faces further investigation and legal proceedings.

An Tso Sun was arrested and charged on Wednesday with one misdemeanor count for making terrorist threats after a male classmate in whom he allegedly confided his plans to go on a shooting spree at Bonner and Prendergast Catholic High School on May 1 told the school about it, and the school reported it to local police.

While An Tso Sun, Di and other family friends have all maintained that it was a joke and a big misunderstanding, Sun Peng apologized for how his son’s actions has disrupted the community and wasted social resources.

He asked, however, that the media not distort the truth ahead of his son’s April 11 hearing, saying that such an action could have consequences for his son both legally and emotionally.
