CORONAVIRUS/Hsinchu shopping mall closes due to confirmed COVID-19 case visit

The Big City shopping mall in Hsinchu City announced it would close early Sunday evening after it received notification that one confirmed COVID-19 patient had recently visited the mall.

According to the Hsinchu City government, the confirmed coronavirus patient visited the shopping mall on the evening of Jan. 11 and dined at the Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in the mall.

The city government has promptly asked the mall to come up with a list of the employees and customers of the sushi bar who were present on the day when the patient visited, and will ask all of them to conduct COVID-19 screenings, it said in a press release.

The shopping mall, meanwhile, said it was closing for business at 7 p.m. Sunday, several hours before its original closing time, to conduct a thorough disinfection. It will also arrange for its employees to undergo PCR tests.

The mall will remain closed on Monday for disinfection, it added.

The latest confirmed case was one of the 10 new domestic COVID-19 cases announced by the Central Epidemic Control Center earlier on Sunday.
