CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 12 new COVID-19 cases, zero deaths

Taiwan on Tuesday reported 12 new COVID-19 cases — eight transmitted domestically and four contracted overseas — and zero deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Seven of the domestic cases were in New Taipei, while the other one was in Taipei, the CECC said, indicating that two more children and three parents have tested positive in a preschool cluster that was first reported Monday.

The 12 new cases bring the total in Taiwan to 16,047, of which 14,386 are domestic infections reported since May 15, when the country first recorded more than 100 COVID-19 cases in a single day.

No new deaths from the disease were recorded on Tuesday, the CECC said.

To date, 837 people have died of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 825 since May 15.
