CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 34,602 new COVID-19 cases, 57 deaths

Taiwan reported 34,602 new COVID-19 infections, including 46 imported cases, and 57 deaths from the disease on Friday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The 34,602 new infections represented a 7.1-percent week-on-week drop in the number of cases, according to the CECC.

The deaths reported Friday involved individuals who ranged in age from their 40s to their 90s, the CECC said. All but one had underlying health issues, while 23 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC added.

On Friday, the CECC also reported 47 new cases classified as severe and 100 as moderate.

Regional breakdown

Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 infections, with 6,048, while Taichung had 4,868, Kaohsiung 4,207, Taoyuan 3,450, Tainan 3,183, and Taipei 3,116, according to the CECC.

Changhua County reported 1,841 cases, Pingtung County 1,140, Hsinchu County 807, Yunlin County 766, Miaoli County 752, Hsinchu City 747, Nantou County 718 and Chiayi County 605.

Yilan County reported 574 cases, Chiayi City 484, Keelung 466, Hualien County 345, Taitung County 201, Kinmen County 134, Penghu County 86, and the Matsu Islands 18, according to CECC data.

Taiwan has recorded 7,626,103 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, including 36,270 classified as imported, and 12,620 deaths from the disease.
