CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports five new COVID-19 cases, no deaths

Taiwan reported five new COVID-19 cases — one transmitted domestically and four contracted overseas — and no deaths from the disease on Wednesday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The domestic case was a woman in her 20s in Taoyuan, who took a COVID-19 test for work and the result came back positive, the CECC said.

Meanwhile, the four new imported cases involved three Taiwanese nationals who recently returned from the United States and the Philippines, as well as a French national traveling from France, the CECC said.

The five new cases bring the total in Taiwan to 16,103, of which 14,407 are domestic infections reported since May 15, when the country first recorded more than 100 COVID-19 cases in a single day.

No new deaths from the disease were recorded Wednesday, the CECC said.

To date, 839 people have died of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 827 since May 15.
