The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued cold, strong wind and extremely heavy rain advisories for across Taiwan Monday, warning that some areas could see temperatures as low as 6 degrees Celsius.

On Monday morning, the lowest recorded temperature in low-lying parts of the country was 6.1 degrees Celsius in the outlying Lienchiang County’s Dongyin Township.

The lowest recorded temperature in low-lying parts of Taiwan proper, meanwhile, was 7.8 degrees in Cape Fugue in New Taipei.

According to the CWB, the mercury also dipped below 10 degrees in Kinmen County’s Wuciou Township as well as in Keelung, Taoyuan’s Guanyin District and Hsinchu County’s Xinfeng Township.

The CWB also issued orange low-temperature alerts for New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan and Lianchiang, with temperatures potentially sitting consistently below 10 degrees, with Lianchiang seeing possible lows of 6 degrees.

For the rest of Monday, daytime highs are expected to hit 13-15 degrees in northern Taiwan and 18-20 degrees in other regions, while areas north of Taoyuan and the eastern half of the country are set for cloudy skies and brief showers, the CWB said.

The CWB has also issued an extremely heavy rain advisory for Keelung and New Taipei, with heavy rain forecast in parts of Yilan.

Affected by strengthening northeasterly wind, a strong wind advisory has been issued for regions north of Kaohsiung, eastern Taiwan (including the Orchid and Green islands), the Hengchun Peninsula and the coastal open area on Kinmen, Penghu and Matsu islands.
