Dreamers standout Hicks back in Taiwan for unfinished business

American Stephan Hicks, who was instrumental in the Taishin Formosa Dreamers run to the finals of Taiwan’s pro basketball P. LEAGUE+ last season, is back in Taiwan for unfinished business.

The 29-year-old 198-cm swingman averaged 22.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.1 steals in the 10 games he played in the P. LEAGUE+’s 2020-2021 regular season, and then put up 27.2 points and 15.2 rebounds a game in the playoffs.

But that was not enough to lead the Dreamers to the P. LEAGUE+ title in the league’s inaugural season.

The Taipei Fubon Braves took a 3-1 lead over the Dreamers in the best-of-seven final, and were declared champions after the season was ended due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Taiwan.

Hick said he was excited to play for the Dreamers again and help them finish what they were unable to accomplish last season — winning the championship.

His return was never assured, given that the Dreamers decided not to re-sign Hicks during the offseason.

According to the club, Hicks is currently in Taiwan and undergoing mandatory quarantine. It did not say when Hicks is expected to play his first game for the Dreamers, who currently lead the six-team P.LEAGUE+ with a 7-4 record.
