Taiwan’s former top envoy to the United States Shen Lyu-shun (???) passed away on Friday morning at the Cardinal Tien Hospital in New Taipei. He was 73.
Born in 1949, Shen was a descendant of Shen Pao-chen (???), an official of the late Ching Dynasty who made a mark in Taiwan’s history by pushing for Taiwan’s modernization and the exploration of mountainous areas.
Shen had served as a deputy minister of foreign affairs (2009-2011) and assumed several diplomatic posts, including as Taiwan’s representative to the United States (2014-2016), representative to the United Kingdom (2011-2014), and representative to the European Union and Belgium (2008-2009).
