Hon Hai tightens bonds with Ohio by investing in baseball team

The Hon Hai Technology Group, also known as Foxconn, announced on Friday its partnership with an Ohio-based MLB Draft League team that plays in the area where the electric vehicle plant it acquired in 2022 is located.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the world’s largest electronics manufacturing services provider said it has become a partner of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, a team in the MLB’s Draft League, and will support the squad’s young prospects.

The Draft League, created by Major League Baseball and Prep Baseball Report, is a six-team summer league that plays from the beginning of June to the beginning of September and showcases players eligible for the annual MLB draft.

Through the partnership, Hon Hai will sponsor the team’s five home games in 2023 that feature special jerseys and take part in the team’s weekly “Every Sunday Matters” activity, Hon Hai said, adding that proceeds from jersey sales will go to the community and charity.

The newly developed partnership comes after Hon Hai purchased the production plant of Lordstown Motors Corp. production plant in May 2022, with expectations that it will become an “important electric vehicle manufacturing hub in North America.”

Eastwood Field, the stadium where the Scrappers play, is located about 20 kilometers from Hon Hai’s Lordstown plant.

According to an expert familiar with the industry, Hon Hai’s latest move signals the company’s intention to become a “good neighbor” in the community through the factory and the baseball team.
