Search continues for 6 missing hikers in New Taipei

Authorities were still searching on Saturday night for six hikers who were reported missing after falling into a stream in New Taipei’s Shuangxi District.

The six included four children aged 8-15 and two adults in their 40s, according to a rescue team deployed by the New Taipei Fire Bureau.

They were part of a group of 31 people who went on an outing on the Hubaotan Historic Trail on Saturday and became stranded due to bad weather, the bureau said.

Seven of them fell into a nearby stream after losing their footing, the bureau said.

As of 9 p.m. Saturday, 25 hikers, including a 9-year-old girl who fell into the stream, had been moved to safety, while six were still missing.
