A Slovakian delegation, led by Deputy Speaker of the Slovak National Council Milan Laurencík, arrived in Taiwan Sunday for a visit aimed at promoting parliamentarian interactions and city-to-city exchanges, as well as bilateral cooperation in economic, trade and technology areas.

The delegation was greeted by Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Tseng (???) and Slovakia’s representative to Taiwan Martin Podstavek after its EVA Airway BR-66 flight landed on Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 7:21 a.m.

At the airport, Laurencík told journalists that his country supports Taiwan, and the visit is “the proof.”

Members of the visiting group include President of the Bratislava Region Juraj Droba, and Peter Osuský, a Slovak lawmaker and chairman of the Slovakia-Taiwan Parliamentary Group.

In its press release on June 2 announcing the June 5-10 visit, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said the delegation would also comprise parliamentarians Anna Zemanova, Tomas Lehotsky, Miroslav Ziak, and Andrej Stancik.

Droba, meanwhile, would be accompanied by Mayor of Malacky Juraj Riha, his secretary Andrea Urmanicova and regional official Michaela Kunska, MOFA said.

During their six-day stay, the visitors will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (???) and other senior government officials, including Premier Su Tseng-chang (???), Legislative Speaker You Si-kun (???), and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (???), according to MOFA.

The delegation will also visit Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan to meet with Mayor Chen Chi-mai (???). In Kaohsiung, Droba will sign a partnership agreement with the municipality and take part in an investment fair, MOFA said.

This is the second delegation the Slovak Republic has sent to Taiwan in six months, after a 43-member delegation led by the country’s deputy economic minister visited in December 2021.
