Seoul: Two youth baseball teams from Taiwan have claimed regional championships in Seoul, earning the right to represent the Asia-Pacific region in the prestigious Little League Baseball (LLB) and Junior League Baseball (JLB) World Series in the United States this August.
According to Focus Taiwan, the team representing Dong Yuan Elementary School in Taipei emerged victorious in the LLB tournament. Despite a narrow 5-4 loss to South Korea in the opening round, the Taiwanese team secured a 2-0 win against the same opponents in the final. This victory marks Taiwan’s fourth consecutive regional championship title and signifies Dong Yuan’s return to the World Series since 2015. Historically, Taiwanese teams have excelled in LLB tournaments, dominating from 1977 to 1991 with eight World Series titles and two runner-up finishes. The LLB World Series is scheduled to take place in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, from August 13 to August 24.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s JLB team, primarily composed of players from Chung Shan Junior High School in Taichung, demonstrated their prowess by defeating the Philippines 7-0 in their regional championship match. The team is set to compete in the JLB World Series in Taylor, Michigan, from August 3 to August 10. Taiwan is the defending champion, having won 10 out of 13 World Series titles since their debut in 2010, with Chung Shan Junior High contributing three titles in 2014, 2015, and 2022.
In addition to their upcoming JLB World Series participation, Chung Shan Junior High recently claimed victory in the 2025 PONY International Asia-Pacific Zone U13 and U14 Championship held in Indonesia. This win qualifies them to compete in the Pony League World Series for the 13- and 14-year-old division in Washington, Pennsylvania, from August 8 to August 13, albeit with a slightly altered team lineup.
