Voting gets underway for KMT chairman, party representative elections

The main opposition Kuomintang is holding elections Saturday to choose a new chairperson and their representatives in the party’s national congress.

Voting began at 8 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m., with the results expected as early as 6 p.m.

Four candidates are vying for the chairperson post. They are incumbent Johnny Chiang (???), a legislator from Taichung; former New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu (???), who was the party chairman for a year between 2015 and 2016; former Changhua County Magistrate Cho Po-yuan (???); and Chang Ya-chung (???), president of the Sun Yat-sen School, a group that promotes the teachings of Sun Yat-sen.

According to the KMT, approximately 370,000 members are eligible to vote in the elections.
