Ongoing seasonal northeasterly winds are gathering momentum and will become most evident Thursday when temperatures could fall to as low as 12 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast Wednesday.<\/P>
<\/P>
With little moisture left in the weather system, the CWB expected cloudy to sunny skies around Taiwan on Wednesday and cool temperatures for northern and central Taiwan in the coming days, especially Thursday.<\/P>
<\/P>
The bureau said temperatures in northern and central Taiwan will fall to 14 degrees and even dip to 12-13 degrees in open, rural areas Thursday, while temperatures in the south could fall to 16 degrees.<\/P>
<\/P>
The mercury could then rise by around one degree Friday before the seasonal winds start to weaken Saturday, the CWB said.<\/P>
<\/P>
Wu Der-rong (???), a meteorologist and adjunct associate professor of atmospheric sciences at National Central University, said temperatures could fall to 12 degrees in low-lying areas Wednesday night and early Thursday morning due to the cold air and radiative cooling effects.<\/P>
<\/P>
Mostly sunny skies are possible between Thursday and Sunday due to reduced moisture, Wu said.<\/P>
<\/P>
Starting Nov. 15, however, Wu said sporadic showers are possible for northern and eastern Taiwan, but more stable weather conditions will be seen in central and southern Taiwan.<\/P>
<\/P>
As for Wednesday, the CWB said, daytime temperatures could range between 20 and 22 degrees in northern Taiwan and Yilan and Hualien in the east, and reach 24-28 degrees in central and southern Taiwan as well as Taitung in southeastern Taiwan.<\/P>

According to the CWB, the lowest temperature in low-lying areas in Taiwan early Wednesday was 12.6 degrees in Qidu District in Keelung.<\/P>
