Taiwan on Thursday reported 22,331 new COVID-19 infections, all but 45 of which were locally transmitted, and 66 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).<\/p>\n

The new cases represented a 25.5 percent drop from a week earlier, the CECC said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The deceased ranged in age from their 40s to their 90s. All but one had underlying health issues, while 30 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the CECC also reported 57 new cases classified as severe and 213 classified as moderate.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Of the 7,902,452 confirmed COVID-19 infections this year, 14,675 have been classified as severe and 20,214 as moderate, accounting for 0.19 percent and 0.25 percent of the total, respectively, according to CECC data as of Nov. 9.<\/p>\n

Regional breakdown<\/p>\n
Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases, with 3,651, followed by Kaohsiung with 3,068 and Taichung with 3,042.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Taoyuan reported 2,269 new cases, Tainan 2,252, Taipei 1,942, Changhua 1,107, Pingtung 747, Hsinchu County 569, Hsinchu City 546, Yunlin 535 and Miaoli 481.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Chiayi County had 423 cases, Nantou 355, Yilan 305, Chiayi City 272, Keelung 259, Hualien 212, Taitung 122, Kinmen 66, Penghu 58 and the Matsu Islands 5, the CECC said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
To date, Taiwan has recorded 7,976,205 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 36,815 classified as imported.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
With the 66 deaths reported on Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 13,379.<\/p>\n
