Young people lend their muscle to quake relief efforts

Taipei, Feb. 9 (CNA) Young people were lending their muscle to a good cause Friday as they helped unload and move relief supplies for victims of the Hualien earthquake.

Tzu Chi University’s varsity basketball coach Hsu Chih-cheh (???) solicited the help of students from the Hualien-based univeristy via Facebook to aid in the transport of relief supplies as they arrived at Hualien’s train station.

Not only did students from Hsu’s own university show up, but the entire varsity basketball team from Stella Maris Ursulin High School, a Catholic private school in the eastern county, as well as students and faculty members from the Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology, were all there to lend a helping hand.

Senior Cheng Yu-chen (???) from Stella Maris Ursulin said he was glad to be able to help out in this way because he had been trying unsuccessfully to find ways to help out with earthquake relief after it hit on Tuesday.

With over 70 people helping out, all of the relief supplies were unloaded and transported to their designated places in less than an hour.

Hsu thanked the coach of Stella Maris Ursulin’s basketball team for the team’s help and told him to give them a day off from their winter training.
