Taichung: Eleven Indonesian migrant workers were arrested early Monday following a drunken brawl at Taichung Train Station on Sunday, with seven of those detained found to be in violation of Taiwan's immigration laws, police said. The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. at the bus terminal on the first floor of Taichung Train Station, where a fight broke out among 50-60 migrant workers.
According to Focus Taiwan, when police arrived on the scene, the crowd had already dispersed, as stated by Taichung City Police Department's Third Precinct in a statement issued Monday. An initial investigation found that the altercation stemmed from an argument among a group of Indonesian migrant workers, who had been drinking.
A special police task force, which was assembled after the incident, was able to identify the suspects after reviewing surveillance footage. Four suspects were arrested at the train station, while another seven were later located in Taichung's Longjing and Shalu districts and taken into custody.
Among the 11 suspects -- eight men and three women -- six were undocumented migrant workers who had absconded from their registered jobs, while one had overstayed their visa. The 11 people have been referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of participating in an affray.
