2 ICU Patients in New Taipei Car Crash Regain Consciousness: Hospital

New Taipei: Two of the five patients in intensive care following Monday’s fatal car crash in New Taipei have regained consciousness, according to city officials and hospital representatives. Chen Jun-chiu, head of New Taipei’s Department of Health, informed the city council that nine people remain hospitalized following the crash, which resulted in 12 injuries and three fatalities.

According to Focus Taiwan, a 78-year-old driver surnamed Yu caused the crash by plowing into a group of pedestrians near Bei Da Elementary School. The driver’s health condition at the time of the incident is currently unknown. The two patients who regained consciousness are junior high school students receiving treatment at New Taipei Municipal Tucheng Hospital. Another patient at the same hospital remains in the ICU, while one more patient is recovering from a fracture.

Far Eastern Memorial Hospital reports that two out of its three admitted patients are still in intensive care, including a student and the driver involved in the crash. En Chu Kong Hospital stated that both of its admitted patients are now in stable condition, with one being treated for dizziness and the other for a shattered femur.
