Training Program Starts to Promote Hakka Culture

To breathe fresh air into the city’s Hakka culture, the Hakka Affairs Commission (HAC) has launched a training program which will recruit 50 talented students to form a troupe that will perform in events to be held by the agency.

According to HAC Chairperson Liu Chia-chun, music, dance, and language constitute the three main conveyors of Hakka culture. New blood is therefore needed to enliven and bring a modern twist to Hakka traditions. The planned touring troupe will stage a variety of performances in the form of a cappella music, cheerleading, street dance, percussion, and stand-up comedy:The a cappella group will present Hakka folklores without instrumental music. The cheerleading squad will feature members from the champion team of Mackay Junior College of Medicine, Nursing, and Management which has posted a four-game winning streak in national competitions. The dance group will demonstrate the stamina of the younger generation through a mix of hip-hop, ballroom dancing, and modern dance. The percussion group will bring to the audience a unique acoustic experience with the instruments of pots and pans. The stand-up comedians, who are trained to assume the role of presenters in future events, will seek to fascinate the audience with their charisma.Registration ends on June 30. To get enrolled, please contact the organizers at 02-8369-2996.
