New Film Evokes Nostalgic Scenes from Taipei’s Past

On June 21, Mayor Hau Lung-bin visited the filming crew of Where the Wind Settles at Yangmingshan American Military Housing and expressed his support for Director Wang Toon and the cast.

Wishing the movie a huge success, the mayor brought the crew sausages and fruits with auspicious meanings. As the filming locations span well-known tourist attractions across the city, Hau believes that the film will help market Taipei following official release. The mayor also took the opportunity to present a bouquet of flowers to leading actress Amber Kuo for her previous roles in LOVE and Au Revoir Taipei. These films, both set in Taipei, helped enhance the international profile of the capital. Where the Wind Settles is set against the backdrop of Taiwan following the Battle of Hsupeng, when the retreating Kuomintang forces settled on the island during a period of ethnical integration. The movie not only features touching stories, but also depicts the vibes of the city between the 1950s and 1960s. Noting that the film can resonate with people his age through nostalgic scenes of old Taipei, Hau reckoned that viewers will be able to witness how people on the island toiled and moiled during the old days.
