Taipei Honored at City Climate Leadership Awards

Mayor Hau Lung-bin received Citizen’s Choice prize on behalf on Taipei at the 2014 C40 Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards in New York on September 23 (Taipei Time).

According to C40 Chair, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes, Taipei was recognized by the public for its efforts to provide a convenient public transport network that helps to improve the environmental quality. Hau noted during his address that the award is the result of Taipei residents’ hard work and a testament to the Taiwan capital’s achievement in advocating public transport. Instead of feeling content for what it has accomplished, Taipei will continue to set new goals and strive for excellence in urban sustainability. He also exchanged experiences with Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon on city administration and environmental protection policies during the ceremony, and met with Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio after the event. Taipei, with its “Clean Air: It’s Your Move” project, emerged as the winner out of the 31 finalist cities in the category of Citizen’s Choice following an online vote by the public members. The project encompasses the city’s measures to improve air quality by rewarding low-pollution vehicles and encouraging cycling.
