Meilun Park to Undergo Facelift

The Parks and Street Lights Office (PSLO) announced that Meilun Park will undergo renovation starting October this year. The park is slated to reopen in 2015, serving purposes of education, recreation, relaxation, and eco experience.

Located along the riverbank of Shuangxi River, Meilun Park is in close proximity to Taipei Astrological Museum, National Taiwan Science Education Center, and the planned new Children’s Recreation Center. Covering six hectares, the park boasts rare greens in Shilin District; it is also home to a variety of science-themed facilities.

According to PSLO, Meilun Park promises great potential for development and better functionality. Its amenities, however, have been worn out over the park’s 16 years of history.

In light of this, an overhaul will be necessary to transform the park into an environment teeming with biodiversity and greenness while not compromising its function as an outdoor classroom for science education.

The project encompasses the installation of more permeable surfaces and grassed waterways, soil aeration, growing waterfront plants, improving pathways, and building additional entrances and accessibility ramps.

PSLO added that in tandem with the international trend of carbon reduction, the refurbishment of Meilun Park will minimize the generation of construction waste while proactively employing recycled materials. The restroom facilities also incorporate mechanism to reuse water from hand wash basins for irrigation.
