DEP Urges Revelers to Reduce Littering at New Year’s Countdown Party

In an effort to reduce litter at the New Year’s Eve bash, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is holding a free hot drink giveaway at the East Gate plaza of City Hall on Songzhi Road for those who bring their own mugs starting 7 PM on December 31. Only 1,500 servings are available, so come early!

In addition to the giveaway, the agency will also hold activities like quizzes, Facebook check-in, and QR Code scans for prizes to highlight the importance of environmental protection while reveling throughout the night.

More information can be found at the Chinese website of DEP (http://www.dep.taipei.gov.tw).

DEP calls upon those who plan to attend the countdown party at city hall to abide by the following guidelines:

1) Don’t drive: Take public transportation instead.
2) Restrain from using glow sticks.
3) Don’t litter and keep the environment clean.
4) Prepare your own cups/mugs and don’t buy bottled water.
5) Reduce the use of plastic bags.
6) Sort out waste.

According to DEP, the agency will set up 264 garbage cans and 100 huge garbage bags in the areas around MRT exits and near the main stage. It urges merry-making visitors to help maintain a clean environment as they usher in the New Year.
