Chiayi: A 30-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after her husband was found at their home in Chiayi County with multiple stab wounds and later died in hospital, local authorities said. Local police identified the deceased as a 36-year-old deliveryman surnamed Chuang.
According to Focus Taiwan, following an emergency call at 1 a.m. Wednesday, police arrived at Chuang’s home in Shuishang Township, where he was discovered with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Chuang’s wife, surnamed Huang, was present in the same room with him when authorities arrived and was subsequently arrested.
The couple was on the third floor of their building, while their three sons, aged 7, 5, and 2, were with relatives on the first floor. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was located on the first floor. The Chiayi District Prosecutors Office has scheduled an autopsy for Chuang to determine the cause of death, as efforts to save his life, including stitching up the wounds, made it difficult to establish the cause immediately.
The couple had been reportedly arguing over financial issues, as Huang had stopped working after their youngest son’s birth, leaving Chuang as the family’s sole provider. Previous domestic abuse reports filed by both parties resulted in the family being placed on a watch list in 2019. The stabbing is believed to have occurred following an argument.
The Social Affairs Bureau has evaluated the situation, deciding that the couple’s 2-year-old son will stay with relatives, while the care of the other two boys will be determined by local government authorities.
