4 arrested for murder of Vietnamese migrant worker in Pingtung

Pingtung County police on Sunday said that three men and a woman have been arrested in relation to the murder of a Vietnamese migrant worker who was beaten to death in his rental unit Friday morning.

The Vietnamese national, identified by his surname Pham, was found dead at around 7 a.m. on Friday in his residence in Gaoshu Township, according to the police.

Evidence gathered from the crime scene indicated a violent struggle took place in the residence, leading police to conclude that the man was murdered.

A task force was set up including Pingtung, Taichung and Kaohsiung police forces, and the investigation identified four suspects who traveled from Pingtung to Taichung after the murder.

The suspects apparently swapped vehicles and changed clothes during the journey, police said

The three men and one women were arrested Saturday night, Pingtung police added.

The police revealed that the suspects believed the Vietnamese man had been talking about them behind their backs at a restaurant and so followed him to his residence when he left.

There followed an altercation during which the victim was bludgeoned to death by one or a number of blunt objects.

Pingtung police said the four suspects were transferred into the custody of the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office.
