Amis DJ Dungi Sapor to Tour U.K. with Indigenous Vocals and Electronic Music

Sheffield: Amis artist, DJ, and music producer Dungi Sapor will begin a U.K. tour on Friday, bringing performances that combine traditional Amis chants and melodies, experimental electronic soundscapes, and dance to audiences in Sheffield, Bristol, and London.

According to Focus Taiwan, event co-organizer Kakilang, a London-based East and Southeast Asian contemporary arts organization, announced that Dungi will participate in the opening performance of the Migration Matters Festival in Sheffield on Friday.

Dungi will also hold performances designed as immersive and interdisciplinary soundscape experiences at arts venues in Bristol on Saturday and London next Wednesday, as stated by Kakilang. In addition to these performances, she will conduct a listening and discussion session next Tuesday at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Each stop on the tour will feature DJs from different countries and cultural backgrounds, whose performances will explore themes of cultural exchange and transnational movement, Kakilang added. At the SOAS event, Dungi will join Vietnamese British sound artist, curator, and researcher Cung Minh B¡ Phm, also known as DJ and radio host Phambinho, for a discussion on sound, cultural memory, and archives.

The 11th annual Migration Matters Festival will take place in Sheffield from Friday to next Saturday, also featuring a performance by the Kaohsiung-based Neo-Classical Chamber Ensemble. This year's edition marks the first time Taiwanese artists and performing groups have been invited to participate in the festival.
