“Angkana” came with luck, drew lots, passed the blue senators’ checkpoint, sat as the chairwoman of the Political Development Committee after two rounds of voting with the same score.
Reporters reported that after the Senate meeting approved the list of 21 Senate Standing Committees, today (24 September), each committee will meet to select the committee chairperson and committee vice chairperson, as well as various positions. It was reported that the Senate’s Senators, or the so-called Blue Senators, who are the majority, have already appointed 20 committee chairpersons, except for the chairman of the Political Development Committee, which has a ratio of 9 to 9 Blue Senators and the minority Senators. Today, we will have to wait and see who will get the chair.
In today’s election of the committee chairman, Mr. Kampol Supaphaeng, the most senior member of the Senate, will act as temporary chairman of the meeting. If the first round of voting does not result in a chairman or the votes are tied, a second roun
d of voting will have to be held. However, if there is still no chairman, a drawing of lots will have to be held, according to Senate regulations, section 5.
When the meeting started, Ms. Angkana Neelapaijit was proposed along with Mr. Wirasak Wichitsangsi and Mr. Prabhas Pintabtaeng, but Mr. Prabhas withdrew. Originally, the blue-shirt Senator was going to propose Mr. Nifarid Raden-Ahmad, but the name was changed before the election began. The first round of voting between Ms. Angkana and Mr. Wirasak received 9 votes to 9. Then, it entered the second round of voting under the original candidate. The second round of voting still had a score of 9 to 9, so a draw was held. In the end, Ms. Angkana drew lots to sit as the chairperson of the committee.
However, the interim chairman did not allow the media to record images during the initial meeting before the vote to select the chairman.
